Western Ontario University Formula Racing team students design, build and race a Formula-style race car every year. The car is fully designed and built by the team during the school year, and the summer is spent testing and competing at races all over North America. The team’s success is attributed to sponsors, who provide the money, material, service, and expertise needed to build a world-class Formula race car. At the beginning of the 2018-2019 school year, the team made the decision to switch from an internal combustion engine to an electric motor for the upcoming season, a switch requiring a complete redesign of the drivetrain, cooling, electrical, and chassis systems on the car. The team developed a spur gear, double-reduction gear train with a ratio of 3.85. We are proud to help the team by contributing the gears and shafts for the car’s new drivetrain gearbox. With Linamar gears at the heart of the drivetrain system, they are set up for a competitive and successful racing season. From all of us at Linamar, good luck on the track!
